My name is Cory Martens. I was born in Newton, Kansas. In high school, I was very active throughout my four years. I involved myself in multiple sports including: football, basketball, and track. I also enjoyed playing baseball up until high school. I think it has been my life long involvement in sports and outdoor activities that have drawn me to the field of Health and Physical Education.
As a K-12 Health and Physical Education major, I have hopes and goals of helping and getting kids excited about being physically active and healthy. I realize that not all kids are athletes, and that we are all different in our own special ways. However, if I can leave a big enough impact on a child’s life, than maybe they will have a better chance of living longer and more fulfilling life.
This is my third year here at Chadron State College, but what brought me to CSC was a combination of different things. I undoubtedly had my wheels beginning to turn with my older brothers, (Nathaniel and Branden Martens) and my sister-in-law (Chrissy Martens) coming to CSC. Along with that, I knew that CSC had an excellent education program, and that CSC had an affordable tuition rate. Plus, it helped that I received a scholarship for the CSC Track and Field team.
On the Track and Field team I am involved in four different events including: shot put, discus, hammer, and the weight throw. I owe all my success athletically to my coaches (current and former) and my parents, who have stood by me through the years.
When I’m not busy with class, track, or Resident Advisor responsibilities, I enjoy just about any kind of outdoor activity. I especially enjoy hunting and fishing.
